Dr. Alla Keselman

Dr. Alla Keselman is a Senior Social Science Analyst in the Office of Engagement and Training, National Library of Medicine, of the US National Institutes of Health. There, she specializes designing evaluation for health information programs that target diverse audiences characterized by health disparities.
Dr. Keselman has extensive research experience and publication record in the areas of lay understanding of complex health concepts, the relationship between scientific literacy and health information choices, and health misinformation online. For over 10 years, Dr. Keselman led a team developing online educational materials for introducing environment and health into biology education. Between 2015-2019, she has served as a Co-Chair of the Science|Environment|Health Special Interest Group of the European Science Education Research Association (ESERA). In that capacity, with Dr. Albert Zeyer, she has organized numerous events and several mini-conferences linking science and health education. She is also, with Dr. Catherine Arnott Smith, a co-author of “Consumer health informatics: Connecting people with Health Information,” a textbook published Taylor and Francis, and a co-editor of the book “Meeting Health Information Needs Outside of Healthcare: Opportunities and Challenges.” Dr. Keselman holds a doctorate in human cognition and learning and a master’s degree in biomedical informatics from Columbia University.
