Prof. Kirsten Schlüter

University of Cologne

Prof. Kirsten Schlüter holds a professorship in the Institute of Biology Education at the University of Cologne and is the head of this institute since 2011. In terms of her education, she has both a scientific and a didactic focus. On the one hand, she holds a degree in biology and a doctorate in molecular biology/biosafety research. On the other hand, she holds a didactic certificate for higher teaching qualification in biology and gained practical teaching experience at Swiss high schools.

Since 1995, Prof. Schlüter has been doing research in the field of biology education. Her research interests include topics such as knowledge transfer from research to school, inquiry learning, inclusive instructional design, and sustainability issues in health and environmental education. Dr. Schlüter is a member of the International Consortium for Interdisciplinary Education about Health and the Environment, which has hosted the annual Winter Meeting on Health, Environment, and Education since 2006. In addition, she is the editor in chief of the HEE-Journal (The Journal of Health, Environment, and Education), an international, interdisciplinary and peer-reviewed online journal, which emerged from the Winter Meeting. Finally, it should be noted that the Teacher Training Center at the University of Cologne is one of the largest in Europe.
