Prof. Marcus Hammann was Chair of the Academic Committee of ERIDOB (European Researchers in Didactics of Biology) from 2004-2008, Member of the Science Expert Group (SEG) for the 2015 PISA Scientific Literacy Test and Chair of the German Biology Education Research Group (FDdB im VBIO) from 2011-2017. His research focuses on cognitive and affective aspects of biology education, which includes research on students’ and teachers’ attitudes, students’ interests and their ability to think across the levels of biological organizations. He published his research in Science Education, Research in Science Education and other peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the International Advisory Board for Journal of Biological Education, Editorial Board for International Journal of Science Education and Editorial Board for Evolution: Education & Outreach. In 2014, he co-authored a book on student conceptions in biology education published in German.
